Our Mission

We collaborate with a network of food champions across the territory who are dedicated to building equitable and resilient food systems. We come together to share learnings, coordinate efforts, and support one another, increasing our collective impact.

Our Vision

A Yukon where every child, family, and community has access to good, healthy food that honours our relationships with culture, the land, and one another.

Our Values

Our work is rooted in community building and respect for diversity. We honor this by creating safe spaces for discussion and supporting communities as they address their own unique food needs. We believe that everyone has a right to healthy and culturally appropriate food.

Community Building

We believe food has the power to bring people together, strengthen relationships, and inspire lasting change.

Respect

At the foundation of our work, we honour diverse perspectives and lived experiences while striving to ensure everyone has equitable access to the opportunities and resources they need.

Sustainability & Resilience

By caring for the land, investing in people, and thinking beyond today, we help cultivate food systems that are built to last for generations to come.

Collaboration

We believe stronger food systems are built together. By welcoming different ways of knowing and creating space for every voice, we foster meaningful collaboration rooted in trust and respect.

Our Team

Meet the Yukon Food Security Network - a group of dedicated individuals (and food lovers!) behind the projects, resources, and gatherings that bring folks together to strengthen food security across the Yukon. We believe that food is more than nourishment, it is a source of joy, identity, and belonging.

Michelle Watson
Coordinator

Michelle is passionate about local food systems and food sovereignty. "Bringing together people who want to create real change in their communities and seeing the impact of this is incredible. I believe that each of us has part of the solution to ending food insecurity and that through collaboration and cooperation we can ensure that everyone finally is able to realize the right to food.”

Rachel Sherman
Communications & Research Coordinator

Rachel is grateful to work alongside community food champions as YFSN’s Communications & Research Coordinator, a role she has held since October 2025. In addition to her interest in localized food systems, Rachel also enjoys hiking, snowboarding, and spending evenings at the theatre and the movies.

Our Steering Committee

The YFSN team is guided by our Steering Committee, whose members bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and dedication to creating more equitable systems in the territory. Together, they represent organizations that share our vision of a future where everyone in the Yukon has reliable access to healthy, culturally appropriate food and the opportunity to thrive.

Dave Blottner
Executive Director, Food Bank Society of the Yukon

As the Executive Director it is Dave’s responsibility to carry out the mandate of the Food Bank Society of the Yukon which states: As part of a caring community, we provide emergency food to the hungry while supporting the greater effort to alleviate poverty. With this comes the understanding that Food Security efforts cannot just focus on today’s emergency but must also place focus on the future and making these problems better. It is for those reasons that the Food Bank is a staunch supporter of the important work the Food Security Network does.
