The Yukon territorial election was held on November 3, 2025. Congratulations to the Yukon Party and Premier-designate Currie Dixon on forming a majority government, and to the Yukon NDP and Leader Kate White on forming the Official Opposition.

Reforming and refocusing the education system are among several key pillars of the Yukon Party’s platform. They have stated that they “will restore accountability and direction to the territory’s education system by putting students and educators at the centre of every decision.”

This includes prioritizing student mental health and well-being by working with the Government of Canada to implement the federally funded National School Food Program in the Yukon.

The Yukon Food Security Network hopes to work with the new government to advance their goal of “[ensuring] students across the territory have the tools, resources and safe learning environments they need to succeed,” by getting school food to every child in every Yukon.

Where do other parties stand on school food?

The Yukon NDP ran a platform committed to food for every child in every Yukon school.

Their plan was to:
- Immediately partner with YFNED to restore the Rural Nutrition Program.
- Expand school food programs so every child in every school has access to healthy meals.
- Work case-by-case with schools and local leaders to ensure the right resources are in place, from school kitchen renovations to hiring local cooks and support staff or working with local businesses.

The Yukon Liberals planned to implement a territory-wide school food program to ensure all students have access to healthy meals while learning.
